We have seen a lot of great Superhero movies. Our favorite just happens to be the Avengers. Hasbro released a ton of Avengers toys to go along with the movie. Of course, there is wide range of role playing toys including an update to the mega popular Hulk Smash hands. Chances are if kids want to imitate any of the Avengers, there is a role playing toy for them. You will find Thor’s hammer, Iron Man’s beam, and Captain America’s shield. However, the one Avengers toy that everybody wants is the huge Shield Helicarrier. This toy is absolutely massive at 3 feet long. It’s the type of toy every geek dreams about playing with as a kid.

Another big Superhero movie was the Amazing Spiderman. I’ll be honest I didn’t watch the remake with my kids. There are only so many times you can remake Spiderman. I’ve heard from friends that the movie was pretty cool. The biggest toy out of this line is going to be web shooting Spiderman. This toy is able to shoot webs out of its wrists. It actually retracts the web from one side and shoots it out of the other side. It’s the type of toy that every older Spiderman fan dreamed of when they were kids. Now our kids actually get one. Lucky them. Of course, for kids who want to be Spiderman, there is a Spiderman mask with glowing eyes. We are also going to get a healthy lineup of Spiderman action figure toys featuring Spiderman and the Lizard. You can find more top toys from the movies at: www.squidoo.com.

Even though there was no new Transformers movie this year, it doesn’t mean that there won’t be new Transformers toys. Our favorite new toy from this line is the new Transformers Prime Optimus Maximus toy. This is a transforming Optimus Prime that has 3 modes: fortress, battle mode, and robot. He’s holds up to 9 Cyberverse figures. There is also a new range of mini-bots called Bot Shots. These are collectible toys that kids can battle with. The game plays out very similarly to Rock, Paper, and Scissors. It’s the type of game that is designed to suck hours out of your life.

When we heard that some the new Star Wars toys would be based on the Phantom Menace, we sort of cringed. However, the Star Wars MTT Droid Carrier Vehicle actually looks sort of cool. It is based on the cruisers that appeared near the end of the film. The droids can actually pop out from inside of the ship. There are also these new small collectible toys that feature all of the most popular characters from the Star Wars Universe.

Back in 1998, the Furby made a big splash. Hasbro is bringing back Furby again this year with the Furby Party Rockers. These cute little interactive guys can now interact with last year’s model. Furbies are perfect for toddlers and young girls. If you want to see the most realistic robotic pet ever, check out FurReal Friends Baby Butterscotch. This toy features the most advanced technology ever. It almost behaves like a real pet pony. When you pet it, it moves extremely realistically. It’s perfect for little girls who have always dreamed of owning their own pony. Now they can.

We have only really scratched the surface of what Hasbro has to offer. They have a ton of new board games and even Play-Doh and My Little Pony is back. Hasbro really has a great line up this year for Christmas and there is something for just about everyone. It’s going to be an exciting Christmas for kids later this year.

December 21, 2012 Predictions: A Summary

We are in the final weeks preceding December 21, 2012. Predictions have been made about everything from massive solar flares and pole shifts to a man-made economic collapse.

These perceived threats have prompted people around the world to form a wide range of 2012 survival plans. For some, these include merely keeping a little extra food around. But others are stocking up on guns, freeze-dried foods and even leaving their homes in an attempt to get off “the grid”.

What has everyone so worked up?

Let’s take a moment to review some of the main predictions being made about December 21st, and see if they might instigate a 2012 Apocalypse.

Solar Flares

This (in my opinion) is one of the more real threats. We have no control over the operations of the sun, nor do we have the ability to specifically predict when a massive solar flare might occur.

The last time such an event was observed(1859), we did not have the dependence on technology that now makes solar flares such a serious threat to life as we know it. Should we find ourselves on the receiving end of a massive 2012 solar storm, we may find that nothing run by a computer works… and that would truly be apocalyptic.

Pole Shift or Magnetic Reversal

If you are confused about the distinction between these two naturally-occurring phenomena, you can learn more by clicking on each of the links above, respectively.

We have no idea what the effects of either a pole shift or magnetic reversal would be, because as far as we know, neither has ever been documented by human beings.

The time frame for these are running out, in my opinion. Pole shifts and magnetic reversals occur at intervals of tens or thousands of years. Many experts believe that they occur gradually but some others think the process may be short and drastic. We obviously have no way of knowing, but it seems unlikely to me that we will wake up on December 21, 2012 with a dangerously weak magnetic field or with a north pole located in southern Canada.

..Unless these phenomena are directly connected to one of the other theories. Some believe that increased solar activity may trigger a magnetic reversal or that the passing of the rogue planet Nibiru may cause a shift in the poles.

Nibiru or Planet X

A man named Zecharia Sitchin proposed that there is a planet named Nibiru orbiting the sun in an extremely elliptical orbit. Supposedly this planet occasionally comes very close to our earth. There are two ways in which people theorize this might bring about an apocalypse on December 21.

First, some allege that the arrival of the planet and its close proximity to earth allows Nibiru’s inhabitants to communicate with us. You probably know about the ancient alien theories– some think that Nibiru is part of that story.

Others fear something far worse than communication with alien beings. Many fear that the elliptical orbit of said planet will guide it into the path of earth, causing something like a pole shift or, more ominously, a collision.

Now let me say, if a benevolent, alien species landed on earth I would be captivated and excited to learn about what they had to share. That’s essentially the best case scenario for a 2012 apocalypse! So I have no fears about that.

On the other hand, a COLLISION seems very unlikely to me. Where would the predictions for such an event come from?? If it happened in the past, surely no one would have survived to tell about it. Even a minor planetary collision would have caused disruptions to the rotation of our planet that humans would have difficulty surviving.

Economic Collapse

One December 21, 2012 prediction is related to economic collapse in america and across the globe. We can feel the effects of out depressed economy right now, so we hardly need to wait for December 21st on this one!

However, some feel that the dynamics of our economy have yet to run their full course, and I agree. Whether or not such a downturn occurs directly on the 21st… well… that would certainly be difficult to predict. But maybe we will look back on this time as a turning point for the worse. Information from Cliff High and the Web Bot Project seems to indicate that there are systemic forces we don’t entirely understand.

Those who follow finance know that we have ourselves in a bit of a predicament with such high debt levels. It seems almost inevitable that things will get worse before they get better.

So there you have a brief summary of some of the most-discussed December 21, 2012 predictions. In my opinion, it’s a mixed basket of “possible” and “unlikely”…

However, I think it’s unwise to say such events are impossible! We are very naive about the workings of our universe and I think we should be open to the idea that the Maya, Dogon and other ancient people had some knowledge that we aren’t yet aware of.

Perhaps the Mayan Calendar holds information that we are unable to interpret or understand.

Maybe a 2012 Apocalypse is coming.

Make Sure You’re Ready for a 2012 Apocalypse

But what is there that you can do?

There are obviously loads of very impractical, expensive things you can do to prepare e.g. fill your house with weaponry, move to the mountains, purchase a helicopter etc. but what can you do now, to at least put your mind at ease? Let me suggest three simple, cheap, readily available things that you should own NOW to be ready for disaster tomorrow.

Stock Clean Drinking Water

Drinking water from the taps is a luxury that we all know that we take for granted, and it won’t last forever. Therefore, unless you are versed in the methods of obtaining safe drinking water from your natural environment, it is well worth buying a huge stockpile of drinking water to just sit in your cellar/basement/attic/garage should you need it. Water won’t go off, so head down to your local cash and carry and grab yourself one of the most lifesaving deals you might ever get.

Stock Emergency Food

There is an incredible range of survival food available online now, with disaster preparedness websites popping up all over the place as people start to understand the risks that we face. Mountain House food is probably the leading manufacturer of freeze dried foods– the perfect survival food. For a relatively small price you can buy enough freeze dried food to feed a family of four for a whole year. UK company Emergency Food Storage are leaders in this area, and have a huge range of stock and advice to help you choose what is best for you and your family.

Get Decent Clothes

If you find yourself stranded, homeless and exposed to the elements you are going to really regret buying that cheap rain jacket over the more expensive one last winter. It is a huge cliche, but you just can’t put a price on quality when it comes to keeping yourself warm and dry. Take yourself down to a proper outdoors shop and treat yourself to the best North Face jacket and proper walking shoes. Whilst you’re there it might also be worth getting a long-life head torch, a windproof lighter and a good multi-function tool, as we tend to find that if you have these three items you can survive in most conditions.

So there you have it. Pretty simple, but the advice is clear: Stock up on water, food, good clothes and equipment so you can at least give yourself a chance should the apocalypse come.

Technology Trends in 2012

However, the latest 2012 technology trends reflect an environment that has risks, but is also exciting. People like Craig Venter are doing amazing things with DNA and biological engineering. Every new cell phone that comes out is thinner and has more capabilities.

But are we moving too fast? Just in the past week, we’ve seen how integrated technological systems can make things very difficult on people. New York has come to a standstill in light of the recent hurricane Sandy. The power is out in lower Manhattan and no one can get to work because the subways are flooded.

Now maybe that’s not the best analogy, but my point is that the more complex our system becomes, the more susceptible we are to its weaknesses. The New York Stock Exchange has been closed for two consecutive days– something that hasn’t happened since the 1800′s! Shouldn’t all of our technology help us to overcome natural disasters with greater ease?

Informational technology trends in 2012 are moving faster than we can keep up. For the vast majority of man’s existence, life has been slow and predictable. It’s only in the past 100 years or so that we’ve seen such monumental advances– and seen them occur so quickly!

Many people blame the May 2010 stock market ”flash crash” on glitches involving computer trading. Theoretically, a large sell order triggered a series of stop-loss orders that sent the market down 1000 points!

Can you imagine what would happen in the event of a massive solar flare? If even part of our electrical grid or communication satellites were knocked out, it could cause a chain-reaction from which we might never recover. More specifically, do you think a “black swan” event like this could occur in 2012 and bring about a 2012 Apocalypse? The informational technology trends of 2012 are not THAT different from the technology trends of 2011… but do you remember the cell phone you had in 2008? I bet the one you have now is MUCH different!

Cloud Computing is changing the speed at which these devices are being produced. Que es la cloud computing? Cloud computing is when data is stored on off-site servers. It can be accessed from anywhere– most notably from mobile phones and other devices! It’s a technological trend that’s changing the world at a very fast pace!

Is the speed at which we’re moving worth it? Can we humans effectively process and integrate informational technology trends into our lives without leaving huge gaps we might later fall through?

Is A Zombie Apocalypse Possible?

It’s interesting to see how the idea of a zombie apocalypse has changed from a supernatural subject only seen in sci-fi movies to one that truly has many people concerned!

It seems that zombies started to become a concern due to extreme behavior exhibited by people with a bath salt addiction… or at least by those practicing bath salt abuse.

It seems almost too outlandish to be real– Bathsalts? Zombies? ZOMBIES?!

Ok… lets all get control of ourselves here. I think there might be more at play here. Given the massive influx of supernatural-themed books, films and tv shows in recent years (think True Bood, Twilight, 28 Days Later, I Am Legend, etc.), I think some people are more likely to consider how a similar real-life event might come into existence for the human race.

I generally think it’s a good thing when people open up to ideas and possibilities that they hadn’t previously considered. After all, it’s a huge universe out there– and it’s full of things we don’t know anything about!

But, will there be a zombie apocalypse? Do you need to create a special plan in case of one? Probably not. Anyhow, would a zombie apocalypse plan be different from say, a supervolcano eruption plan? Or a solar flare plan? Having a plan and being prepared for any unforeseen disaster is important, I think. But generally speaking, these will all have the same basic components– a safe place to go, water and food supplies etc. Probably even a Bug Out Bag!

You’ll forgive my skepticism about the “Bath Salt Zombie Apocalypse”… unless we all start doing bath salts, this probably wont be the cause of human extinction. I think there are many other potential threats that could bring about a 2012 Apocalypse… and they probably deserve more of our attention than this.

The Yellowstone Caldera Volcano

Will the Supervolcano in Yellowstone Erupt in 2012?

First of all, we have to acknowledge that the word “supervolcano” sounds like something out of a sci-fi movie…! But, in fact, supervolcanos are real. And there is a HUGE one brewing under Yellowstone National Park.

Yellowstone Caldera Map More appropriately, this is known as the Yellowstone Caldera– and it is responsible for all the beautiful, spectacular geysers that Yellowstone has become famous for.

However, this beauty and magic has a darker side… It’s fueled by a SUPERVOLCANO…

A supervolcano that (you guessed it) is coming due for an eruption, according to some experts.

Now I’m sure you all know how a volcano works– Magma from the earth’s mantle pushes up on the crust until eventually the pressure gets strong enough to break through, causing an eruption.

Supervolcanos, including the Yellowstone Caldera, are pretty much the exact same thing. Calderas don’t look the same as standard volcanos because the mass of material sinks back down into the mantle– kind of like a popped bubble.

And the ground around the Yellowstone Caldera has been rising and falling at a more dramatic rate in recent years, which could suggest increased activity. I wonder if a Pole Shift or Magnetic Reversal could trigger more dramatic activity or even an eruption…

However, there is an upside to this– theoretically an eruption of the Yellowstone Caldera Supervolcano would come with some advanced warning. Increased seismic activity and maybe even smaller eruptions could signal to us that there is something much bigger coming. And at this point, it doesn’t seem to be happening at a rate that has many scientists concerned, so I doubt that it will be the cause of a 2012 Apocalypse.

You see, there isn’t really anywhere for us to go. A supervolcanic eruption would have a major impact on the entire world- devastating not only the immediate area of the eruption, but also filling the atmosphere with ash and smoke that would eventually spread across the globe.

The massive eruption at Krakatoa cause the “year without a summer” in the 1800s, and that wasn’t even classified as a supervolcano. Supervoclanos, like the one at the Yellowstone Caldera are about 1000 times stronger than the eruption of Mount Saint Helens.

The Mayan Calendar ends on December 21, 2012; hence this is certainly the reason why many people have adopted the theory that the world will end. The Mayans put up monuments to forewarn and enable future generations to calculate the approach of the end of the world.

Mayans aside, a number of theories have been brought up, by Christians and other organizations, all pointing towards an end of the world. According to the Christian Bible for instance, doomsday is bound to occur, but its timing is only known to God.

Every time a prediction such as that of the 2012 apocalypse is spread, there is a level of anxiety that comes with it, mainly because such prophecies, whether true or not, have always associated the end of the world with many of the following:

Diseases
Flood
Earthquakes
Nuclear War
Infiltration of the earth’s atmosphere by solar rays
Pelting of the earth by asteroids, planets and comets
Super volcanoes

Many of the theories state that during the 2012 apocalypse, there will be a confrontation between good and evil. The earth will be destroyed, and there will be an end of the world as it is now, creating room for the start of a new beginning; humanity will enter a different phase. A number new age theorists believe mankind will enter into a new millennium of positive living and understanding.

However the question one begs to ask is, is there really a possibility of this? Well the only available option is to adopt a wait and see attitude because such an occurrence only lies in the power of supernatural forces. No human being can be certain because it goes beyond human control. Create A Bug Out Bag

One of the easiest preparations you and your family can make today is a bug out bag. Bug out bags, also known as survival kits and 72 hour kits, are designed to keep you alive while you are away from home. Bug out bags should include food, water, first aid, personal protection gear, communications, and other survival items such as fire making kits and fishing kits. Food and water are the most important items in the kit, and you should include as much of these as possible. Water is heavy and takes up a lot of space. Instead of carrying a weeks worth of water, you can pack a water filter or water treatment chemicals with enough water to get you to another water source. That’ll leave more room for food and other gear.

One For Everyone In Your Family

Each member of your family needs to have their own bug out bag. This serves two purposes. In the event that you get separated from your family members, everyone should have one will or will their own survival kit on their back. Each member having their own bag also distributes the weight of the gear amongst the family. Customize each bag for the user, and make sure that important documents are included.

It Could Save Your Life

Preparing a bug out bag for yourself and subsequent bags for each family member does not take very long. The real problem will be trying to prepare any kind of survival kit after disaster strikes or when you are being evacuated from your home. The small amount of time it takes to prepare these bags could save your life.

Zecharia Sitchin and Nibiru (or Planet X)

Nibiru or Planet X, as it is sometimes called, is a theoretical planet that travels in a highly elliptical orbit around our sun.

This theory originated in large part from the work of Zecharia Sitchin.

Sitchin proposed that this planet, unlike the other 7 planets in our solar system, traveled via an elongated orbit. The elliptical nature of this orbit causes Nibiru or Planet X to travel past Neptune into deep space– returning into the neighborhood of Earth only once in 3,600 years!

If this is true, it would be difficult for scientists to even know of its existence until its arrival was already fairly close in time.

So, alright. What does Nibiru/ Planet X have to do with 2012 Apocalypse theories?

Well, some people think that there could be a collision of some sort, although this idea was not originally purported by Sitchin. However, people have related the two events nonetheless, and now there are discussions about it all over the internet.

The collision idea really makes no sense to me. If a collision like that DID happen with a body known as Nibiru, it wouldn’t just swing around and hit us again! Surely the orbits of both planets would be significantly altered. Not to mention that Earth would still be reeling from a massive impact if it had only occurred 3,600 years ago! …We’d probably notice something had happened…

Zecharia Sitchin thought that the arrival of Nibiru brings it close enough to earth that its inhabitants can connect with the human race. He also believed that this has happened in the past and is therefore a proponent of the Ancient Alien theories.

These theories propose that extra terrestrials visited us in the distant past AND that they are responsible for a mass renaissance in human society. Many believe they gave us ideas for agriculture, technology and architectural- most notably, the structure of the pyramids.

Wouldn’t it be awesome of the inhabitants of Nibiru (or Planet X) dropped by in 2012 to give us knowledge and inspire the human race with some perspective on the size of our universe?

That’s a 2012 Apocalypse I’d LOVE to see!

Be Prepared To Survive

Hello Readers- We have a guest post for you about emergency preparedness! This is an important topic I spoke about briefly in this post about preppers and the economic collapse in America. Not many people have thought through how they might deal with a disaster scenario, but everyone needs to have a plan and consider ALL the obstacles to their survival. Hope you enjoy!

Floods, earthquakes, fires, hurricanes, tsunamis, 9/11, December 21, 2012 …? With a sharp rise in the occurrence of natural disasters as well as greater incidents of terrorism and civil unrest, it is more important than ever to be prepared in the event you face a survival crisis. The potential disasters are myriad. Whether you consider yourself a mild survivalist and want to be prepared for days or weeks, or an extreme survivalist and seek to survive for years, the first step to take is to acquire or assemble a survival kit. Websites abound that offer preassembled kits or you can put together your own custom-made kit based on the specific needs of yourself and your family.

There is a consensus among the many survivalist websites that, in general, it is less expensive to buy a preassembled kit than it is to build your own. If you choose the latter option, you need to know what elements the kit should include. A survival kit should contain food, water, shelter and warmth items, a first aid kit, survival tools and implements, and communication instruments. With regard to food, it is important to try to have not only nutritious food options, but also some tasty choices-especially if there are children in your group. Obviously, the food must be relatively long-lasting and among the suggested items are jerky, powdered foods (eggs and pudding, for example), trail mix, high-calorie food bars, dried fruit, and canned foods. Clearly, if space and transporting are issues, the less weighty and bulky food bars and fruit would be preferable to canned foods, etc.

While healthy people can typically go about a week without food with no deleterious effects, it is only a matter of days and, in some cases such as extreme heat, a matter of hours before the lack of water takes its toll on the human body. Ideally, a stockpile of commercially bottled water will be available in a crisis-the rule of thumb is a gallon of water per person per day. You can never have too much water. However, one should be aware, in the event of an extreme emergency, of other possible sources of water such as from a hot water heater, swimming pool, hot tub, garden hose, even a fish aquarium. It is vital, however, that you have the proper knowledge and skills to purify the water before drinking.
