We are in the final weeks preceding December 21, 2012. Predictions have been made about everything from massive solar flares and pole shifts to a man-made economic collapse.
These perceived threats have prompted people around the world to form a wide range of 2012 survival plans. For some, these include merely keeping a little extra food around. But others are stocking up on guns, freeze-dried foods and even leaving their homes in an attempt to get off “the grid”.
What has everyone so worked up?
Let’s take a moment to review some of the main predictions being made about December 21st, and see if they might instigate a 2012 Apocalypse.
This (in my opinion) is one of the more real threats. We have no control over the operations of the sun, nor do we have the ability to specifically predict when a massive solar flare might occur.
The last time such an event was observed(1859), we did not have the dependence on technology that now makes solar flares such a serious threat to life as we know it. Should we find ourselves on the receiving end of a massive 2012 solar storm, we may find that nothing run by a computer works… and that would truly be apocalyptic.
Pole Shift or Magnetic Reversal

We have no idea what the effects of either a pole shift or magnetic reversal would be, because as far as we know, neither has ever been documented by human beings.
The time frame for these are running out, in my opinion. Pole shifts and magnetic reversals occur at intervals of tens or thousands of years. Many experts believe that they occur gradually but some others think the process may be short and drastic. We obviously have no way of knowing, but it seems unlikely to me that we will wake up on December 21, 2012 with a dangerously weak magnetic field or with a north pole located in southern Canada.

..Unless these phenomena are directly connected to one of the other theories. Some believe that increased solar activity may trigger a magnetic reversal or that the passing of the rogue planet Nibiru may cause a shift in the poles.
A man named Zecharia Sitchin proposed that there is a planet named Nibiru orbiting the sun in an extremely elliptical orbit. Supposedly this planet occasionally comes very close to our earth. There are two ways in which people theorize this might bring about an apocalypse on December 21.
First, some allege that the arrival of the planet and its close proximity to earth allows Nibiru’s inhabitants to communicate with us. You probably know about the ancient alien theories– some think that Nibiru is part of that story.
Others fear something far worse than communication with alien beings. Many fear that the elliptical orbit of said planet will guide it into the path of earth, causing something like a pole shift or, more ominously, a collision.
Now let me say, if a benevolent, alien species landed on earth I would be captivated and excited to learn about what they had to share. That’s essentially the best case scenario for a 2012 apocalypse! So I have no fears about that.
On the other hand, a COLLISION seems very unlikely to me. Where would the predictions for such an event come from?? If it happened in the past, surely no one would have survived to tell about it. Even a minor planetary collision would have caused disruptions to the rotation of our planet that humans would have difficulty surviving.
One December 21, 2012 prediction is related to economic collapse in america and across the globe. We can feel the effects of out depressed economy right now, so we hardly need to wait for December 21st on this one!
However, some feel that the dynamics of our economy have yet to run their full course, and I agree. Whether or not such a downturn occurs directly on the 21st… well… that would certainly be difficult to predict. But maybe we will look back on this time as a turning point for the worse. Information from Cliff High and the Web Bot Project seems to indicate that there are systemic forces we don’t entirely understand.
Those who follow finance know that we have ourselves in a bit of a predicament with such high debt levels. It seems almost inevitable that things will get worse before they get better.

However, I think it’s unwise to say such events are impossible! We are very naive about the workings of our universe and I think we should be open to the idea that the Maya, Dogon and other ancient people had some knowledge that we aren’t yet aware of.
Perhaps the Mayan Calendar holds information that we are unable to interpret or understand.
Maybe a 2012 Apocalypse is coming.
